Stations of the Cross prayed on Cathedral site

On Friday, March 13, 2015, Bishop Michael F. Burbidge joined more than 200 of the faithful gathered on the site of the future Holy Name of Jesus Cathedral to pray the Stations of the Cross. At each station a different ministry/cultural identity brought a cross representing their community and joined the procession. Ministries represented were: African Ancestry, Native American, Human Life and Dignity, Home School Association, CHGS/JPII High,    Filipino Community, Youth Board, Religious, Cathedral School, Catholic Charities, Campus Ministry, Hispanic Ministry, Knights of Columbus and Young Adult Community.

The Campus Ministry station was shared by Sr. Rosemary McNamara, S.U. campus minister at UNC Wilmington, with students who were on their way back to school from a spring break service trip in Philadelphia. Instead of bringing a cross to their station, they placed hands on each other’s shoulders to form a human cross.

The cross at Sacred Heart Cathedral school’s station bore a heart signed by all the students in the school.

The Stations ended with the Veneration of the Cross.
